Ladle Turret

Ladle Turret (LT) is the predominant molten steel transfer and teeming equipment in modern continuous casting, installed between the ladle transfer bay and casting bay columns. Its rotation radius positions the ladle nozzle precisely above the tundish during teeming. Ladles are placed on the LT via transfer bay cranes; rotation aligns them over the tundish for steel feeding. Empty ladles return to the transfer bay via LT rotation.

As a critical continuous casting component bridging upstream/downstream processes, the LT operates under three load scenarios: unloaded, single-ladle (140+ metric tons), or dual-ladle. Each scenario imposes distinct structural stresses, necessitating smooth rotation, ±5mm positioning accuracy, and minimized mechanical shock during starts/stops. To reduce tundish temperature drop and meniscus fluctuation, rotation cycles are optimized to <45 seconds.

Our engineering solution:

  • VFD capacity selection: Motors oversized by one rating level (per IEC 60034-30)

  • Motion control: S-curve acceleration profile ensuring jerk-free deceleration (≤0.1 m/s³)

  • Automation logic: PLC-triggered speed transition via positional limits—high-speed rotation (0.5 rpm) shifts to low-speed (0.1 rpm) at 10° from target, enabling precise stops with <0.5° deviation.
